Okay, I post up a lot of my drawings, but I’ve never actually posted any of my writings…So here I go! My diction is a little, er, off the radar, but I hope you will enjoy it nonetheless ^^

On my travels I took to visiting a place called Agnora, a small and humble village, where I was usually greeted by an old man whose primary job it was to welcome in travelers. While elderly folk are often ridiculed by modern society for being grumpy and useless, this one was very different, for he was great company to keep all around. Also he was well mannered, because despite the fact that in his youth he had suffered on an even greater scale the same things many of us suffer today, he still tended to be generous in sympathy and pity, both highly sought after commodities if I dare to assume so myself.

This old man often told the story of what he liked to call “one of the most greatest achievements of human-kind”. Now, this old man, when he still had a taut face and a paralyzed frown, went through a sort of self-exile and left his home country overnight. He had nothing on him but a heavy mind and the clothes on his back, so that he slowly wasted away from inside out; I thought it uncanny myself, because as an old man he was nothing of the sort of soul-draining wretch he described.
The old man told me he ceaselessly wandered the roads under sun and moon, rain and snow, no better than a specter haunting his past. But due to circumstance, and thanks to fate, he chanced upon another man walking the same road; he too was suffering from self-exile. Here the old man began to give such a sad account of this fateful meeting that he began to tear in the very middle of it! A fond memory in his heart it was, for it seemed that the very ghost of his past was speaking to me then, emerging forth to take the form of an impassioned poet.
The two exiles wandered the same roads together for so very long, contemplating, arguing, and wondering. Soon enough, they realized they loved each other. Eventually they settled down under a mountain in solitude and were never bothered by civilization. Those were the happiest, if not most ironic, days of the old man’s life.
Alas, trouble will find a man no matter how far from civilization he escapes; the lover’s life was taken by illness only weeks after settling down (the poor soul knew not the precautions of drinking still river water). The younger self of the old man fell into a period of mourning; he wept himself to sleep every night.
One morning, the lone exile woke up horrified to find himself blind. It was so sudden, so mysterious, that for once he felt something besides sorrow overtake him: fear. Looking like a fool, he fumbled around his home for any object that could act as his walking stick, and being either accustomed to the ways of wandering until bumping into something or simply being a favored victim of erratic fates, he went outside for the first time in a long time and stumbled along the mountain trail. He eventually came upon a traveling caravan. After recounting his story in full at the other’s insistence, the caravan master allowed him to ride with him into the next town. There, the exile met with a doctor; however, the doctor could not figure out what exactly had caused the illness so referred him to a shaman, that is, a doctor of the supernatural.
So the exile went next to the shaman and almost immediately upon entering the sacred house the shaman saw what ailed him.
’A spirit haunts you,’ said the shaman in such a grave tone that the exile thought himself a dead man. ‘He follows you and covers your eyes with his hands from behind you.’
’But why does he do it?’ asked the exile in turn, feeling strongly that it was his deceased lover haunting him.
The shaman answered, ‘Because rather than choosing to live the rest of your years fruitfully as a productive human being, you chose to mourn and waste away. You were as good as blind to the life around you, and so here you are!’
Suddenly the exile broke down into tears and fell to his knees. He knew instantly what he had to do, however, and that was to become precisely the man he became many years later; that is, someone who enjoyed himself, at least at the behest of his lover, so that he could know the fruits of passion, of life, and not sacrifice those precious gifts to worrisome doubts. Of course you know that he became a very pleasing creature, and I should add sightful, old man, so that when he eventually joined with his lover in heaven he went to him with smiles, and I imagine that there he talks a good deal of the awesome adventures he wouldn’t have had if he had never escaped his blindness.
